Yes, you are right. We have come an amazing distance in a century. Women got the vote here in Canada 93 years ago (72 years ago in Quebec). And we have been doing good ever since!

And as you said...medical and scientific advances! I grew up with a wood stove and coal oil lighting. And medicine was a mustard plaster! Hell of it was, though--it all worked!!

But let us be honest: TB, Polio, Smallpox, Diptheria, Rubella, etc. -- Science has driven these scourges over the cliff as Jesus reportedly did to pork sandwiches. Incredible that homo sapiens has one foot in this amazing present and one foot in the maw of some prehistoric beast trying to drag us into the superstitious past...
