A couple of weeks ago I wanted to post some upcoming events that we will need to take into consideration for 1998. However, I forgot one so I did not post it. I now think I remember what it was

Next year Congress will try to "fix" both the federal tax structure and Social Security. It seems like there will be a bipartisan effort to "fix" the tax structure. We will probably hear about the flat tax and the need to eliminate deductions. However, the Social Security "fix" may have more of an effect on the market. There are those in Congress who would like to "privatize" Social Security by allowing contributions to be placed directly into stocks and bonds, at least to some extent. I think this is why Greenspan is yapping about this now.

Who knows what we will end up with but it is one more thing to worry about over the course of the next year.
