Dennis - science is no longer science - it is simply another form of politicing. Every engineer or scientists knows that the assumptions of an analysis can largely dictate the results. Alternately we used to focus on defining the system boundary for the basis of evaluation.

In one of my classes we had the worlds greatest prof - a now deceased Dr. Price. In one of our tests a fellow student raised his hand and told Dr. Price he had not given us all of the information to solve the problem. Dr. Price sort of looked at the guy and said something to the effect that in real life you would never have all of the data - he wanted to see the quality of our assumptions.

Well - the quality of assumptions today are simply not quality as they are fabrications as needed to get a desired result.

Bob

PS: Following that event we used to say that we had to assume concrete behaved like an ideal gas at low temperature and pressure.

Oh well - one of the best lessons of the past now makes even more sense today.

PSS: I loved that old guy! He was a formative figure in years of UC Chem Es.

Methane Leakage Not a Deal Breaker for Natural Gas A Response to Anthony R. Ingraffea
July 29, 2013 | Alex Trembath, Max Luke

Not since European deployment of nuclear power in the 1970s and 1980s has any country achieved such rapid decarbonization as the United States has in the last five years thanks to cheap natural gas. Natural gas has displaced more coal than any other energy source in decades, and will prove an essential transition fuel as governments continue to support innovation in renewables, nuclear, and carbon capture technologies.
