Perhaps in the last 100k yrs we might just have begun to add new fragile layers of neural networking but not to that great extent as we'd like to think . Much more apropro to just keep thinking of ourselves as biological machines with only a few months of added lingistical , varied social pomposity & tool making rudimentary skills and leave it at that . The difference between the average human & an octopuss , dolphin or bear or any higher mammal is not that great really ,.we just have the tiny added ability to "think" we are . Even crows, eagles & magpies demonstrate more real common sense & intelligence than the average human , so why the Indians worshipped them so. The first place i'd look for consciousness is in the structure of the basic sense organs and various autonomic nervous system & work up gradually from there and think that takes in pretty much the entire view . What we call consciousness am starting to really believe is an illusion entirely fabricated by stirrings in the brain thru simple rumblings of gluttonous stomachs, overactive bile organs & agitated liver and overused kidneys . The main seat of consciousness centers focussed around the mouth , rear & lower excretory orifices ..and oh yes the ever present pull of the sex organs . Truth is that Human Beings have no brains or any real consciousness , the conclusion i've reached reading this thread and oh , must be an election year ! ;o)
