Another plane type that lasted a long time

"The PBY was the most successful aircraft of its kind; no other flying boat was produced in greater numbers. The last active military PBYs were not retired from service until the 1980s. Even today, over 70 years after its first flight, the aircraft continues to fly as an airtanker in aerial firefighting operations all over the world."

C-130s have probably carried the flags of more nations than any other military plane, wouldn't you think?

Quite possibly. Certainly they have to be near the top.

Last year I got to see the inside of the factory where they were built. They build them old school rivets and bolts, none of this bonding composites together with high-tech adhesives. Some of the "jigs" they use to hold and then move the pieces are older than I am. And I think one of them was from the original mass assembly of the C-130 (so mid fifties)

Found a video about their construction

Found an even older transport plane design that's still in service (although with new engines)

In addition to being older, the Skytrains/Dakotas may have carried even more flags then the Hercules. And that's not even including the DC-3 civilian versions. (Quite a few of those still flying).
