tonto, The minimum wage in Belize is $1.25 per hour. They have two scales. The two dollars a day has been a pitch for years...which helps promote greater tips. Hopefully it worked. They need the money.

If the US becomes a Right to Work country my concern is that the US may be spiraling downward with our wages and fringes as we compete with the lower wage countries.

While on the Mayan Ruins Tour I left $20 to be split equally between the bus driver and the three tour guides. I learned that it takes two of the Belize dollars to equal the US dollar. They thanked me very much. At first I did not understand why. Then, I learned that each guide receiving $5.00 it was equivalent to $10 in Belize money. You are right, they really need the money.

I now understand why some Americans go to the Third World countries to live with their US dollars since it can buy so much real estate and the basics of the Country.
