Iran praises Obama
March 8, 2012 by Don Surber

The Nobel Peace Prize winner who bombed Libya for five months without authorization from Congress has a new best friend forever: Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader.

President Obama’s willingness not to confront Iran about its development of nuclear weaponry to use against Israel or Iran’s threat to close the Gulf of Hormuz greatly please Khamenei. Oh, President Obama sent a few nasty letters and called for a boycott of Irtranian oil — but everyone knows Barack Obama’s heart is not into it.

Obama may have a soft spot for Iran. Readers may recall that 4 years ago, President Obama and his now-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton denied Iran was developing the bomb and contended President Bush was saber-rattling.

In what fell just slightly short of an endorsement of President Obama’s campaign for re-election, Khamanei embraced Obama’s chastisement of Republican leaders for “beating the drums of war.”

This is not a parody. It is not April First. This is a report from the Telegraph:

Iran’s state TV reports Khamenei as praising a recent statement by the US president saying he saw a “window of opportunity” to use diplomacy to resolve the nuclear dispute.

It is one of the rare cases in which Iran’s top leader praised an American leader.

However Khamenei said the West’s sanctions on Iran would fail.

The US and its allies suspect Iran is trying to build a nuclear weapon, a charge Iran denies.

Mr Obama on Tuesday said diplomacy can still resolve the nuclear crisis and accused his Republican critics of “beating the drums of war.”

An Associated Press translation of Khamenei’s words read: “This expression is a good word. This is a wise remark indicating taking distance from illusion.”

The Ayatollah was not all hugs and kisses toward Obama. From the Associated Press report:

Khamenei said resorting to the sanctions was a sign of misunderstanding and an unrealistic approach by the U.S. toward the Iranian nation.

The Iranian leader warned that the misunderstanding will damage American leaders: “It will lead their calculations to failure.”

Barack Obama may yet get an Election Year Conversion to protecting American interests and may even attack Iran. But for now, Khamenei realizes whose back Obama really as. And it ain’t Israel’s.
