I liked the story, too. The point is that direct giving solves both the problem of giving to the looters and giving to the hopeless loser looters. I can walk past LOTS of street people, but in Vegas a couple weeks back while walking (early) through the Strip/Flamingo overpass walkways I saw several homeless curled up or awake with empty bottles and with the pall of death hanging over them. I stopped for one of them and gave him a few kind words and a few dollars. He had not asked, but I could see a human being behind the eyes who had once looked for something in the world...
