*RE: " I am amazed how govts routinely screw people."* Governments are financed by people who want to profit from the ability of the governments to either 1: tax people 2: give away quality of life to builders who make your nice neighborhoods more crowded.... basically the politicians sell your quality of life to the highest bidders... and use the higher tax collections on the new development to reward their other political backers, usually government workers and union jobs to build the developments that steal our quality of life.
