Alexa flipped off the safety and cut loose at the tomcat. Wood chips exploded into the air as her fence was cut apart. The cat darted through the new opening, glared back at the furious Alexa, and bolted for safety as the ground around him erupted in a new fusillade.

Alexa was steaming now. Not only did the cat escape, but now her fence needed repairing. She gathered the shell casings off the ground, to save for reloading, and then sat down on the back stoop. She picked up her bottle of Hoppe's, and began to swab out the gun barrel. "God, I love the smell of Hoppe's" thought Alexa to herself. "Bilbo used to dab a bit of Hoppe's on for cologne."
