An epiphany such as Larkin had requires two things: perspective and a conscience. Ever having either of those is the problem that liberals have. Perspective is the willingness to see more than one side and having a conscience is what it takes to accept reality. It takes boldness to swallow ones pride which goes to explain why so few living in the Bubble of Fantasy ever pierce it. Its why cowards love mommy government.
