Apple (AAPL) Daily Dollar Volume Is Off the Charts, Nearly Eclipses Entire NYSE
6:11 pm ET 03/14/2012 - Street Insider
Apple, Apple, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL)... That's all anyone seems talks about in this market, and with good reason. However, one overlooked part of the story has been the absolutely massive daily dollar volume trading hands in the stock daily.

With over 50 million Apple shares trading Wednesday and an average price of $584.40 on the day, the dollar volume just today was approximately $30 billion!

To put this number in perspective, the average daily dollar volume on the entire NYSE for the month of March was $36.6 billion. The total dollar volume on the entire Nasdaq has been in the $50 billion range, ex-Apple it is probably much, much less.

Today, the next largest dollar volume stock was PowerShares QQQ (Nasdaq: QQQ) at about $4 billion and then Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) at about $2 billion.

While Nasdaq doesn't keep data on record daily dollar volume, we would have to assume that today's $30 billion in Apple dollar volume is a record.

Besides today, Feb 16th was another massive volume day for Apple with 53,706,600 shares trading hands. With an average price of $512.05 that day, StreetInsider.com calculated dollar volume a little lower at approx. $27.5 billion.

While it may be normal for a stock sub-$10 stock like BofA (NYSE: BAC) to trade tens of million of shares, when you see a nearly $600 stock trading this level of volume it is notable.
