Hiram, Good Stuff! Glad you stopped by this thread. What can you tell us about the Satellite capacity (# users), number of deployed birds, and plans for the future coverage-wise. What about monthly costs to consumer and setup costs--do you know the range roughly? I believe Motorola is beginning work on a high BW 2-way "air link." Know anything about it? Another area none of us has touched on yet--one which will be huge--is conditional access and data security. This will be important for all the types of systems. Still pretty cloudy in the cable area (well, depends who you talk to also). Haven't talked about software, especially the RTOS, either. That COULD develop into a potential monopoly even though "open systems" is the buzzword of the day. What most people mean by "open systems" seems to be "it can't require Wintel" rather than being completely open. I think MSO's are tending to lean toward a "push" OS that is downloaded and upgraded from the headend. dh
