The call for either Santorum or Gingrich to withdraw is based on the idea that if one of them withdraws the voters who support either of them will go to Romney.

I think that is a false assumption.

Me too. In fact, I find it amazing anyone thinks that.

What I've noticed in the past is that as people dropped out, their support went about half to Romney and half to others. Was that way for Bachmann, Perry, Pawlenty ...

Didn't matter how conservative they were. I think it's because Romney is most people's 'second choice'. Once their first choice is gone, it's on to Romney.
