I don't think your post is crazy at all. It is exactly how I think. I really didn't like that Obama's first actions were to say the past is the past with respect to Bush and Cheney. Both of those guys were criminals. Cheney especially. And they should have been prosecuted. The whole torture thing was so incredibly abhorrent to me. However, Obama brushed that aside with the excuse that "we need to move forward". And in fact, Obama is now using the torture precedents Bush and Cheney put in place to engage in torturing others. But back to your point. Yes, absolutely we should have prosecuted Bush and Cheney for their war crimes. Going into Iraq alone was a violation of International law. As to Edwards, he has money. If you have learned anything by now, you should realize that in this country when you have money, you can literally get away with murder, grand larceny, and any other crime. We've sunk very low. Well, that is how the rule of law is subverted and how Democracies die. If criminals aren't prosecuted, because "we need to move forward", then we never learn from our mistakes and we never hold the rich and powerful accountable for their abuses. Then breaking the law becomes merely a cost of doing business. It is affordable, because no one goes to jail. Then the unwashed masses like me begin to feel there is no justice in this country and that only the 99% are ever held accountable to the law. That is when civil unrest starts to show its ugly head. Another case in point, have you seen the recent mortgage settlement for $25B? No one goes to jail for what was clearly illegal activity and no one has to admit to criminal wrong doing. Literally, massive fraud and larceny has become acceptable, because before you are caught you make billions and when you are caught, no one goes to jail and it becomes a business expense. If these cases were prosecuted under the RICO statutes, at least the government could claw back treble the amount of their illgotten profits and that would send a message. I don't like any of this. The rule of law needs to be adhered to and executed with vigilance in ALL cases both high and low.
