I also bet that sometime next year, NBER will declare that there was a recession in 2012. NBER always takes about a year after a recession ends to declare that one existed. We can use the following website as the source: nber.org Now, you have to give me your counter bet. Mine has been very specific, so please make yours just as specific. You said the first half of the year... with confidence. I would be happy to bet, real money, Ted or somebody can hold it, that there won't be a recession declared for the first half of 2012. Say, $50? As for the stock market, no bets. Random walk. Like betting on the weather six months from now.
