There's what we "know" & what you wish to believe but most "belief" rises out of the context of the geographical social envirionment you are exposed to when young by great forces of cohersion & literally no free choice whatsoever . For my part have not discussed ties to earlier mythology theories of pagan tie ins such as Isis & Horus , birth of christ , philosophy /theology , cosmology , but would be all too happy to discuss for they are well documented to be more than theories . If wish to traffic your "God" on an evolution thread be prepared to take some trips down history's lane then , for evolution is supplemented by an entire body of work in the Anthropology department too where all history, mythologies & evolutions of man's societies & civilizations must be taken into view , not one single western religion of empire born in the deserts of the palestine later adopted by the desperate Roman's at the end of their last days . Capice , good enough for you ? If you wish to traffic in what we know , then be prepared also to own a few well documented events thru the last 2000yrs that many of our founding fathers & 1000's of well educated & thoughtful men & woman have questioned since our inception as a nation . If i met one Christian, Jew or Moslem that wished to embrace & own their own bloody histories --> just once , i would be more inclined to take them seriously. But the average chrtistian in America knows so little about their own religion's history , or doesn't wish to know , its almost a sin of self deception . The most boring subject yet the most fascinating --->History . (just cant ignore it or wish it didnt exist )

The Greek philosophers started to really question the existence of God & Gods early on (later in their time), they gave us many rich templates for political governing , sciences/math , philosophy , astronomy ,architecture , manufacturing , technology , business agriculutre that the Romans embellished upon . Their culture was spread all the way to India at one point by Alexander and all thru the Mediterranean , Egypt & Palestine . Here's one example by Epicurius that to this day hasn't been refuted in the slightest and i'm surprised it even survived the way they (Christians & Moslems ) destroyed all disagreeable pagan literature & philosphy Epicurus (c. 341 - c. 270 BC) Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then He is not omnipotent. Is He able, but not willing? Then He is malevolent. Is He both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is He neither able nor willing? Then why call Him God? * The idea that Islam preserved much of the Greek learning in Baghdad is true but only up to about 1000ad when the Iron Mullahs & Caliphs took over and banned all Greek philosophy on pain of death as apostasy and why ? Because these men were the first in history to be on the cusp of realizing the great self imposed creation of man with these fictional God or Gods (priests & mullahs) was all along just a projection from ourselves from distant past to tribalism . It was exactly then that Islam starts its 1000yr decline until just recently with the discovery of oil after those same Mullahs that are in power today took over 1000yrs ago and clamped down with iron fists on anything that resembled "free thought" . By the dawn of the 20th century 700yrs later Islamic culture was in almost in complete tatters scientifically & philosophically collapsed , primitive & barren . It hadn't produced anything of much value for over 300yrs after this 1000yr decline of dominate religious fundamentalism . What a great testimony to Allah ...and some day the oil will run out what do you think will come next 200yrs ? Guarantee you it won't be pretty ivory towers in the deserts....

Of course, you can have your beliefs that Jesus was a real god and that the bible is his word! Enjoy your rationality! But if you believe in all that bronze age barbarian myth then own the fact that Jesus, son and father of Yahweh was a cretin who believed in demons and the demon theory of medicine. That Yahweh (Jesus) was a piss poor father and extremely ignorant about the natural world or about anything outside of desert and disease. That the book of Truth he wrote is full of ignorance, absurdity, cruelty, genocide, racism, and barbarian ideas and ideals--just what one would expect from primitive, pre-scientific humans....but not at all what one would expect from a caring, loving, and intelligent Creator! There was a show called "are you smarter than a fifth grader". How about you? Are you capable of starting a family with the planning that good parents put into that endeavor? Are you able to bring children into the world and see that their needs are met and that they learn how to get along with one another and treat all races without prejudice and with respect? Are you able to heal their wounds without killing birds and rubbing blood on their big toe and their thumb and their left ear and chanting? And when your kids are having trouble do you take some of the blame and redouble your efforts and your LOVE...or do you drown them so that they die the most capricious and terrifying deaths imaginable? In other words...Are you smarter than a fifth grader???
