Quite frankly, I don't believe that most Americans care how or under what conditions their products are made. However, the "elites" (political and media) do care, and they are the ones that drive the narrative. Because the elites have focused on the "Foxconn problem," it has become a political problem for Apple. One that will fade, of course. Mike Daisey did Apple a big favor.

As you correctly note, Foxconn's problems are not Apple's problems. They are Apple's problems only to the extent that its operations violate Apple's own standards or affect its ability to make and market its products on a cost effective basis.

Some would argue - myself included - that Foxconn has provided an opportunity for tens of thousands of people to pull themselves out of poverty.
