To ALL: [ Additional Details on the GTE CLEC ]

GTE LAUNCHES ADSL

After nearly two years of trials in Southern California, GTE Communications Corp. is offering its first commercial asymmetrical digital subscriber line services.

The carrier has signed a three-year contract with Westell Technologies and agreed to use the vendor's carrierless amplitude/phase modulation-based ADSL , rate-adaptive DSL (RADSL) modems and DSL access multiplexers (DSLAMs).

OK.. The GTE CLEC will deploy Westell's CAP based solution. CAP performs, not as well as DMT, but is performs. This puts a different light on the DSC/GTE announcement last week.... until later.

PS. Mark - I agree, we need additional detail on many TI/WSTL issues.

mark-

my read on it is this: modems are low margin compared to the DSLAMs, so if we are getting those, why not the modems as well.

good luck to all,
