Another issue came up if you are importing IB's Form 8949 .TXF file into TurboTax and are filing a CA state return. The .TXF file contains the same data as the .PDF file, with entries in decimal format. But the Federal return rounds each trade to the nearest dollar, and the CA return does not round. As a result, the net results are different (by $9 in my case) and the CA return generates an entry in the CA adjustment form and pages and pages of "differences". I looked all over for a way to change the setting for "round to the nearest dollar" in either return, found none. I wasted an hour in an online chat with Intuit trying to explain the problem ("well, you must have entered something different in each return") before I got across the issue that the Fed & state programs were interpreting the same input file differently. Bottom line is that there is no way to change the rounding strategy of either program. The good news is that I trust the IB imported .TXF file to give the correct results, with all wash sales accounted for.

wilywilly, can you tell me which browser you're using? I still can't download the 8949 in .txf format. I just get the same error message The TurboTax TXF file is not available for the selected account. So I submitted a ticket to IB, and they said maybe the problem is that I am using Safari with my Mac OSX computer and they recommend Firefox instead. I didn't try Firefox on the Mac, but I tried IE on Windows7 and I still got the same error message.
