I agree with most of that, and it's all true to some extent. Our daughter taught fourth grade in Las Vegas for a year or so. Her Hispanic kids were the only ones whose parents insisted that she send homework with them, and made them do it. Kids whose parents did not go to school and did not finish school are condemned to a miserable life unless they are extraordinarily self-motivated. We have had a huge influx of Spanish who didn't go to school and whose kids don't finish school.
