Small world, I grew up on Third St. and Avenue A in a tenement. It WAS Alphabet City back then, and has gentrified quite a bit since!

Regards,
John

PS - Those 'classic' Orchard Street peddlers, back then it looked very much like what one sees when the young 'Vito Corleone' walks his neighborhood streets...

OT...VERY OT...None of those joints can match our Fall Creek Tavern...affectionately known as The Creeker...One of the few authentic neighborhood bars left anywhere..Grandfathered in a location modern zoning restrictions would never permit...one block from our High School...

LOVE places like that.

Me too. And Chicago is full of them. Florida? You've got to like beach ambiance.

If you like dive bars, you will love reading The View From Nowhere by Jim Atkinson. The guy traveled the country visiting dive bars (he called them bar bars), and then reviewing them in the book. The funniest book I ever read.
