Ocean beach used to be so far from San Diego that it was an all day trip. People had second homes made of clapboard to stay overnight on weekends. I well remember those days. When I was 15, I "ran away" from home for a week, to bike down to Mexico from LA, on the super collector racing bike my distant uncle gave me. Sow up tires and all. Had a blast in Carlsbad, which at that time had only one motel, run by two babes, that put me up. We went to a drive-in, in a carpet lined van, owned by the boyfriend of one of the gals. Got to second base that night. Never forget it! :-))
