China's giant steel sector is to slash its labour force by
730,000 workers, or nearly 22 percent, by the end of the century to help boost efficiency, the
China News said on Monday.

The Ministry of Metallurgical Industry said it would pare the number of steel workers to 2.6
million from 3.33 million by 2000, the newspaper said.

It did not say what would happen to the laid-off workers.
Maybe they can make more crap for WalMart??
