If we lived in a tropical region I would have a backup generator. Friends had a condo on Sanibel and when the hurricane hit the ultimate damage was mold due to no power for the AC. While Cle is 80F today - amazing - I see no need for one here. The worst I can imagine is losing the food in the freezer from an extended power outage. I note that some people do have gasoline powered generators for backup.

As for alternate fueled cars it would seem to me that a plug in hybrid would make some sense. However, for our life style - I am not interested. The price of gasoline is only a nuisance - covered calls and short puts make it such.

conversions would cost about $6k. A non-starter IMO.

Conversion is unlikely to make sense, but what is the cost differential if you design and build it as CNG from the beginning? That is the more interesting question.
