We have been fed a bunch of BS...........mostly coming from the GOP.............that if you work hard, you can pull yourself up by the bootstraps and go from rags to great riches in a life time. That is mostly not true.

That did work for those in our great coastal port cities in the post WW 2 and had little to do with the GOP other than help enhance credit juiced housing bubbles twice. Most all my relatives up north did quite well. All it took was a positive spirit, hard work, live below your means and most importantly buy your own home along with a couple of rental properties while prices were outrageously affordable in the 1950's and 1960's in good areas that didn't go downhill in subsequent decades.. That was a rarity I think they still can't comprehend given the struggles I see of our younger generations here in Florida and probably the same in much of middle America, small town America and the south.. High unaffordable RE prices is a double edged sword in the end but living in a place where you are constantly stuck in neutral or a constant roller coaster isn't helpful either..

I was speaking to the American myth that you can go from rags to millionaire status in one lifetime. Its possible but its much rarer than many people think. Its much more likely you can go from the lower class to middle class in one lifetime so long as you get educated. I think that's true even now.
