Re: 98 Scenarios

I just thought of another scenario.

Scenario 6: Demand Side Shortfall -- Target price: $15
Subjective probability: 15%
If, in the midst of the supply side crisis amongst DD vendors, demand were to suffer some untimely downward blip, the entire situation would be seriously exacerbated.

Pierre,
"I think Seagate has the weakest position in case of war."
Why is this? I don't see why they would be in "weakest" position. They have a lot more cash than debt, as well as some side investments in companies that could conceivably be liquidated for a fair bit of money, if it comes to that in a couple of years. They also have some good products in the pipeline, with the new Medalist and Barracuda drives. True, their problems in the past 6 months have been daunting, and true that they won't simply go away overnight, but they've been in similar positions before (when the missed the initial 3.5 inch form factor shift, most especially), and have pulled through. Why do you think their position would be measurably worse than anyone elses in case of your "war" scenario?

With regard to Scenario 3, are you considering the possibility that either Hyundai or Samsung may go bankrupt? I do not follow those companies, but I do know that they have a lot of debt and that Kia went bankrupt a few weeks ago.

can't argue with your objectivity, you must have stayed up all night to write that one. Have to agee with one thing, the problems in Asia and the probability of increasing bankrupcies there throw everything into a cocked hat.

this is a time when no amount of analysis or news or facts helps. Crystal balls are king, rolling dice works too.
