He is toxic and he is unpopular. But I'm quite sure he didn't take the job to make friends.

Personally, I think he and Reagan were the most competent presidents since FDR. Bush was a lousy public speaker, but I am, too, so I tend not to criticize people for that. A relative who knows him and the Bush family quite well says he isn't "quick on his feet, and that leads to a perception he isn't a smart guy, but that would be wrong."
