while corruption happens everywhere it is viewed as normal and acceptable in Mexico.

That particular episode happened a long time ago when things really weren't THAT bad. I've been to Baja many times, but not lately.

My housekeeper, who's been with me for 30 years, used to take a couple of weeks off around Christmas to visit her relatives in Durango. She didn't go this year and doesn't plan to ever go back. She said it's too dangerous no matter where you go in the country.

She would drive to El Paso and take a bus the rest of the way, which took several hours. Driving a car with California plates on it would be too much of a target. The last time she went, the bus was stopped on the highway and the passengers robbed. The last group was so mad that there wasn't anything to steal that they beat up two of the men who were seated in the front of the bus.
