Sure you can do that, and some people do. But in my mind, why not spend the extra $200? It's such a small amount compared to the amount you would spend over the life of a 2 year contract. Might as well get a phone you are comfortable with. Most people willing to commit to data plans for 2 years are not going to be scared away from an extra $100 up front (iPhone 4 is $100, not free). All of these products are targetted towards the high end of the market.

For the high end users, I have no question that you are right. Couple hundred dollars is not a major concern. But the main question is how many of those high end user is around. And as Apple double their Iphone sales every year, would the number of high end user double every year as well?
