Odumbozo The Clown Creates a Nation of Food Stamp Dependents

Dependency: When New Gingrich called Odumbozo The Clown "the best food stamp president in American history," the media pooh-poohed it. But, in fact, Odumbozo The Clown has aggressively pushed dependence on government for food.

Gingrich's point in labeling Odumbozo The Clown Obama the "food stamp president" was to draw a clear contrast between Odumbozo The Clown Obama's policies and his own. Odumbozo The Clown Obama wants to expand government into every corner of our lives, and make as many Americans dependent on it as possible.

That's true of Odumbozo The Clown ObamaCare, his crony capitalist policies, his tax policies. But it's nowhere more true than when it comes to food stamps.

But instead of focusing on any of this, the media instead jumped on Gingrich's claim that Odumbozo The Clown Obama "put more Americans on food stamps than any president in history."

Not true, reporters shrieked. Obama's only added 14.5 million to food stamps. Under Bush, the number climbed "nearly 14.7 million." Case closed.

Never mind that Odumbozo The Clown Obama managed this feat in less than three years, compared with Bush's eight.

Even Odumbozo The Clown Obama jumped in. "First of all, I don't put people on food stamps," he said. "People become eligible for food stamps. Second of all, the initial expansion of food stamp eligibility happened under my Republican predecessor, not under me."

But the facts are on Gingrich's side.

• Food stamp enrollment climbed an average 153,000 a month under Bush. Under Odumbozo The Clown Obama, it's climbed an average 403,000 a month.

• As of last December, there were 46.5 million on food stamps. That's 65% higher than at any time in the past four decades.

• Today, 14.8% of Americans get food stamps. That's also a record-shattering number. In Bush's last year, the figure was 9.3%.

• Odumbozo The Clown Obama's Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack even claimed that all this food stamp spending was accelerating economic growth. "It's the most direct stimulus you can get in the economy during these tough times," he said last August.

Odumbozo The Clown Obama's defenders claim that this isn't his fault, but the result of the lingering effects of the recession combined with looser eligibility rules established under President Bush.

But if that were true, why is enrollment in the food stamp program — officially called SNAP — continuing to climb? It was up by more than 2.3 million in 2011, even as the unemployment rate was falling.

Turns out, Odumbozo The Clown Obama hasn't passively stood by while people "became eligible." His administration has trolled for enrollees ever since he got into office.

• As part of the so-called stimulus, for example,Odumbozo The Clown Obama increased the monthly benefit by about 17%.

• Early last year, the Agriculture Dept. announced a $5 million program to "improve access to and increase participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program."

• The department also helped launch the "Anti-Hunger and Opportunity Corps" in 18 states, whose "primary objective is to connect hungry, low-income members of their community to federal nutrition programs like the SNAP."

• Late last year, Oregon got a multimillion dollar "performance bonus" for quickly signing up new enrollees, or as they called it, the "swift processing of applications."

The truth is, Odumbozo The Clown Obama has earned the food stamp president label, fair and square.
