Level 1 is simple bid and offer you see on most electronic quote systems. i.e. bid 10 ask 4

Level II shows which MMs are bidding and at how much and which MMs are selling at how much. Lot of these MMs hide behind the INCA and box the stock.

Level III shows more comprehensive data as well as other stock boards.

I dont use Level II by the even tho I am a self proclaimed day trader, since most of my so call day trades are based on fundamental DD, ratrher than sitting all day like a SOES and scalp 1/8 and 1/4. It doesnt even pay for my commissions, altho I use DLJ direct. My day trades are for minimum 2 - 3points on the predictable stocls like ASND, VVUS, ACLY, IOM etc.
If you are interested on Level II, WWW.AFTI.com has trial membership for 175 a month.
Also www.daytraders,org has IRC for those who specialise in doing day trades.
I go there some times and had some fun with LOCKC, PMTI, CAML etc where we did well but these are hard to come by where you make 1000% in 2 days (LOCKC in at 3/4 out at 5 58)

By having Level II it helps you to see all the BS bid and offers MMs throw at you.

Try it and let me know how you do. But please first month or two do it on paper. Dont risk real money until you feel comfortable.

I am still learning.
