Yes Romney's response to George Snuffalopagus was exactly how these types of bates are to be handled. The leftist press is to be denied their straw men whenever possible.

But Romney's response was spot on.

santorum's ridiculous statement reflects the mindset of the far right wing (most notably religious right) that he is pandering to ideologically....iow, if you cannot 'purity' test you are probably just as well off with the 'devil you know'

i've seen post after post about romney not being a 'true conservative'....and yet neither are santorum or gingrich for that matter if look at their records.....and santorum PARTICULARLY with the social agenda statements is, *imo* calculated to prey on the fears of the RR without coming right out and stating don't vote for romney, he is 'not one of us' i.e, a mormon....he's taking a page from the palin playbook by sabotaging the likely nominee with the conservative RR 'base' so he can run in 2016 (i believe this is palin's strategy as well)

so much for what is best for the country....
