so I imagine we have another five years at least before it matures to the point when upgrades are minimal. And then someone will probably come along and make a phone that isn't "as we know it today".

I think this year growth rate will tell us if we will have another 5 year of good smartphone market or only 3 years left.

I wasn't really talking about overall market growth, I was talking upgrade cycles of current smartphone owners. The devices will mature to a point where the new features and benefits will not be so compelling ... and I imagine that's 5 years away. Look at iPods... the newest generation just isn't something to get excited about, not that much better than the last generation.

I think the bigger threat to Apple is that somebody, somehow comes out with something that is the new, cool "it" smartphone. The cell phone market has always been fickle ... and although we tend to think Apple design is invincible, it's not. Somebody might just come up with a better mousetrap.
