Was the constitution written to preserve the rights of non-democratic entities, such as corporations, or to secure the individual rights of human beings? I see nothing in the constitution that says "We the Corporations".. And I sure as hell don't believe corporations have "unalienable rights" bestowed upon them by their creators. Capitalism is a TOOL for the purpose of "promoting the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity".. Nothing in our constitution states that we should enslave ourselves to an economic theory, especially when it promotes the subversion of democratic values and institutions through bribery and financial extortion. There are millions of people across this country who lack the means to get into institutions of higher learning without burdening themselves with tremendous debt (student loans just hit $1 Trillion recently). Educating our people is an investment in the future of the nation. But I believe it should be reserved for those who show the desire and ability to maximize the taxpayer's investment in their education. I knew far too many students who received educational benefits (50-100% scholarships), but required my services as a student tutor. Only too late did I discover that I could have qualified for similar scholarships since I was the first person in my family to attend college. But no.. I worked 2 part-time jobs and had to take on student loans to pay for my college. So yes.. do I want a bit of a meritocracy?.. sure. I want people who display the desire and ability to succeed to have every opportunity to do so. It's an investment in our nation's future. And I think, in return for such assistance, they should be obligated to perform service to their country, either in the military, or some civil field (depending upon their speciality). I also believe people who receive unemployment and/or welfare, should be required to perform some community service in order to provide taxpayers some ROI on their expenditure. It would also dissuade slackers from remaining on the dole for longer than absolutely necessary. Hawk
