Education is a great idea but there is nothing in the constitution that entitles you to a free one

Don't think I said anything about being "free". But how the student repays the financial support can be done in "creative" ways, such as national service.

Again, this is not about "hand outs", but a "hand up".. For those who show the desire and ability to be considere a good financial risk for the taxpayer.

It's should be noted that educated people eventually pay far more in taxes than uneducated ones. Therefore, education is an investment in the nation's financial tax base, as well as it's economic competitiveness.

Where's the best value for taxpayer money Ponokee? Giving the TBTF banks trillions of dollars in new government (taxpayer financed) debt to purchase with cheap Fed Funds in order to put them on life-support, blowing the money on unproven and uneconomical alternative energy, as well as extending unemployment benefits and food stamps....

Or using the same amount of money to provide small businesses the means of retaining, retraining, or hiring new workers for the millions who want a job, but cannot find one?

Education is not just getting a college degree.. It's technical training.. re-training for a new job field.. etc.

And it's far better than what Nancy Pelosi once claimed.. namely that extended unemployment benefits was the fastest means to create jobs..

There's a ton of work that needs to be done in this country, rebuilding infrastructure, and retraining people to work in new industries.. If the government must spend money, it should be to promote the general welfare, not just corporate welfare (though they may both benefit)..

The reality is that economic theories, whether Marxist, or Capitalists, are just different flags being flown by those who wish to exploit and dominate humanity to their own benefit.

As TBS aptly stated, the middle class is being destroyed and our nation has been turned into debt slaves to the power elite. This is the ultimate path to Fascism and the destruction of democracy.

That is a tough issue.. on one hand university is not for everyone.. and it is not only about intelligence.. In my own family I can roll off a bunch of successful folks that did exceedingly well without .. OTOH we get stuck with 'educated' dopes that are well connected and only got through on money... fine.. but then they are in charge..

Agree though it's not a right... and I have zero boohoos for the loan issue.. My wife had a huge loan after two degrees and I a small one.. we paid them all off within maybe eight years and managed to buy a townhouse to boot. BTW my rather nice neighborhood is filled with successful tradesmen...

If schools were doing there job Parent's job too... that is often missed..
