Greg writes of an old "rule":
A healthy market will start at a low point (Jan. DOW = 6200) to a high(Aug. DOW = 8300), then retreat back to the mid-point of 7250 and then return to it's bullish climb. It seems like this "rule" fits todays market perfectly.

I disagree.

The BullRun started much lower, maybe 777 if I remember, and has only
had one really big "correction" in 1987. Since then, I don't think
it has had more than a 10.X % correction. Your 6200 point is just one of many on a line that goes pretty much up and to the right from 1974 or so.

I made a chart of this which you can see with this url:

quote.yahoo.com^DJI&d=my

This chart shows it even better from 1993 on:

quote.yahoo.com^DJI&d=my
or
quicken.com

BTW, I think you were responding to BB Jr. He writes/does the www.adcom.com website where BB Sr. had his first web presence.

"I know with absolute certainty that Fortran is not
used in any engineering firm today. It is equally
hard to believe that COBOL remains an active
part of the business community."

I think you will find some disagreement with these
statements. So what are businesses using? Java+++?

Also, I think you are responding to bb jr. (based
on his previous postings.

I have not programmed in Fortran for many years.
But take a look at
http.cs.berkeley.edu
Famous math professor still using "Fortran/DOS"!

I am not sure whether the person who responded to your message was BB or BB Jr; I suspect the latter. First of all I think it is disingenous of him to be writing responses on this thread using his fathers name without suffix (jr). I note the signature at the end of the response was BB.

Also, as for COBOL I cannot believe any company is actively developing software in COBOL. I suspect most of the software people working in COBOL do nothing more than to correct the Y2K problems in legacy systems. In my opinion the year 2K problem is vasly overstated; it is technical hysteria.

Greg -

I truly apologize for the confusion. I am not Bob Sr. I am Bob Jr. This has happened on occasion before and I NEVER attempt to misrepresent myself as Bob Sr. From now on, I will always sign my name as bob jr. in hopes of avoiding future confusion. FWIW (For what its worth) I would not be surprised if Bob Sr. read your note to me anyway!

thanks -
bob jr!
