<< Del, I understand where you are coming from, but what do "misdeeds" committed three to five hundred years ago have to do with 1997? Does "guilt" by inheritance or association last until the end of time? How many times do people have to say they're sorry? >>

I have never heard the "sorry"s that you refered to. Has the Vatican ever made a public apology for past deeds that were directly responsible for countless deaths? Have Luther's followers renounced his later writings that so inspired Hitler to eliminate the Jews? Both sides of the ongoing current religious disputes in the Middle East, Bosnia, Ireland, (did I forget any?) go on killing their enemies (read those who don't believe what they do) without apparent remorse. By the way, did you ever hear of an evolutionist killing or torturing someone because they wouldn't believe?

500 years ago? You don't think that it wouldn't happen in this country today? I personally overheard a local man in a restuarant boasting to his friends that he would love to get it on with those "fuckin' Athiests that are controlling our public schools. I would love to blow a few of them away!". His friends were pleased with his statement. He turned a little red when I told him that "you know, it's possible that one of those Athiests might just shoot first in self-defense if he was being threatened." In case you didn't know, I live in Texas where they openly mock the Supreme Court decision against school prayer. Given the right push from someone like Pat Robertson, I have no doubt that many of today's American Christians would be willing to kill in God's name, just as they did with our Indians. Have you not heard of the militant Christian militias that are growing in numbers with heavy duty weaponry? Just what are those weapons going to be used for?
