I would be interested in hearing what qualifications you believe a person should have to be the President of the USA or Vice President of the USA.

I doubt that any life experience can prepare one fully for the presidency, its responsibilities are unequaled. Ideally, I would like to see a candidate with prior executive experience, probably a governor or former VP. Senators don't have to make the hard choices. Preferably that executive experience would have demonstrated successful response to difficult times, for a governor economic troubles or perhaps natural disaster. Someone who only governed during boom times hasn't been tested. While I think significant government experience is necessary, I prefer candidates who also have been successful outside of govt. I want someone with a good grasp of a few of the key areas: economics and foreign policy foremost. I want a candidate who has studied American and world history, and understands how we got to where we are today. I want someone who has demonstrated character and honesty in their personal, business and public lives. I want someone with the humility to acknowledge that they don't have all of the answers. I don't want someone too young or too old, I would say early 60's is probably best.

I have intentionally avoided any specific policies or beliefs, I think the above are necessary for a candidate of any political leaning. I could probably continue for a while, but I think that covers my essentials.

It might be interesting to get other opinions on this topic.
