Excellent reading, sir.

Having worked overseas in DIA assignments for several years, I am always fascinated by the working of our intelligence agencies.

Thanks for posting the article.

For all the focus on “kinetic” operations during Roger’s tenure, “he believes this is not a war you’re going to be able to kill your way out of,” said a former colleague. To him, “There is no end in sight.”

That sentence summarizes that whole story and moreso the entire war.

The whack-a-mole concept we continue to follow will never be decisive.

good article. I like this guy.

sometimes people forget causal effects.
it is about Saudi oil.
it is about the failed Middle East initiatives in the 80's with Reagan & BushSr. as in,
we swapped places with the Russians in Afghanistan. not too smart a move.
it is about the first Iraq war...are we just hired mercenaries for the Saudis?
it is about the consequential 9/11. the idiotic Iraq2 war. for what truth may that be?
it is about "paranoia".
now we have like over 500 military bases in over 125 countries or so.

it is about money & power in other peoples' misery. now Iran's embargo. they do not have the
"bomb". if we held other nations to that same criteria we hold Iran to, than we should
embargo or threaten at least 20 more nations.

at least the Saudis are getting richer.

so it is a nice read to see one seemingly nondescript guy emerge from a totally trashed
foreign policy of 30 years and do remarkable things.
it will be interesting to witness his "staying power".
