You're right in that all three are not required, but these are the three major ways to get the job done. Austerity measures in the US? Probably not gonna happen. Increase taxes? Maybe, maybe not. That leaves us with inflating the system, which in my estimation seems to be the most logical path we are taking given the Fed's monetary and fiscal policies.
