Marine boot camp is 12 weeks. It's not quite 90 days, but it's the kind of time frame to do what you are talking about.

I spent 19 years working with substance abusers.

The only thing for sure about them in general is:

If they truly want to stop using, no one can stop them; If they don't truly want to stop, no one can make them.

The vast majority oppose treatment, or go with a 'fake it till you make it' attitude. The ones with that attitude are better off in prison. When they come back out, they have a choice to either stop, or not. It is their choice.

I've forced many addicts to go to treatment. I couldn't force them to stop using, but I sure as heck could ruin a lot of their Friday and Saturday nights. The percentage that actually respond to being made to go to treatment could be counted on one hand.

The residential programs are undoubtedly the best ..... but many go there to hide from 'life', instead of to learn how to beat their habits. They only occupy space that could be better utilized by someone else actually wanting to stop.
