While zero corruption is too much to expect, New Zealand has a low level of corruption. If I remember rightly it's the lowest in the world. Sure enough: en.wikipedia.org

But there is corruption. I can recall immediately half a dozen instances of government officials being corrupt and ending in gaol. That's just those who were caught.

FredonEverything used to boast about life in Mexico when he first moved there, comparing the USA unfavourably to it. Not so much now. I think they had major violence in the area he lives.

As Gandhi the Revered apparently said, the line between good and evil runs through the middle of each person's heart. People have to choose not to be chimps. Voting to take opm is not considered an act of envy or threft because it's legal. The fact that something is legal does not make it right. Slavery was illegal but it was not right. If people rediscover the need for virtue to enhance their own lives they will stop voting to rob other people. They will humbly live a lesser life and decline the invitation to rob other people. "Go on, vote for us. We'll give you a good share of the loot." That is unfortunately the way many people see politics rather than an agreement to protect and share the commons.
