There are lots of different kinds of treatment. Some people believe, for example, that Suboxone is a useful drug in the treatment of opiate addiction, and while Suboxone is readily available from many physicians, few of them actually provide the necessary therapy to go along with it. It is just substituting one opiate for another in those cases.

My personal belief is that you have to address the drug problem from multiple directions, looking at what has worked in the past and building on that.

I just think overall we could do a much better job than we're doing today. One aspect of it treatment, but decriminalization or in some cases legalization is the first step.

Again, the Portugal model shows a lot of promise in that it has resulted in reduced drug usage among teens and young adults.
