Skittles and Ice Tea. One key part of the narrative of the Martin shooting is that Skittles and Arizona Ice Tea were being carried by Martin. This ABC News report is typical: “He [Martin] has no weapons on him, only a pack of Skittles and a bottle of iced tea.” The Sanford Police incident report makes no mention of finding such items. What is the source of this fact that Skittles and a bottle of ice tea were found with Martin? ....

The skittles and ice tea seems to have come from the Martin family's lawyer.

.. Martin was packing little more than a bag of candy and a canned iced tea on the night he was killed.

"He had a gun, and Trayvon had Skittles," Benjamin Crump, a family attorney, told The Huffington Post this afternoon.

Martin, 17, a high school junior who lived with his mother in Miami, was visiting his father and stepmother at their home in Sanford, a suburb of Orlando, on the weekend of Feb. 26. During halftime of the NBA All-Star Game, Martin's family said he walked to a nearby convenience store to get some candy for his younger brother. ....

Talk about a lousy news story - this one has him buying skittle and ice cream and being gunned down 100 feet from the convenience store. Actually he was 7/10 of a mile from the store:

A Miami teenager visiting family in Central Florida is coming home in a casket.
Trayvon Martin, 17, was visiting family members in Sanford when he was shot to death by a man at a convenience store on Monday night.
The teen walked into the store to buy ice cream and Skittles. He had $22 in his pocket.
About 100 feet from the building, Martin was confronted by an armed man who shot him dead, said his uncle Ronald Fulton, who lived with the teen. There were no witnesses.
Sanford police identified the suspect as George Zimmerman, 25. He has been questioned, but no charges have been filed nor an arrest made.
Martin’s viewing was Friday night in South Florida.
