I had a long talk with my hippie daughter last night about Obama. She agreed we need both groups of liberals. Some in the tent and some outside the tent keeping everyone honest. She understood the concept cold. We have these discussions once a week and I learn as much from her as she does from me. It does my heart good to see her take in the world with a full plate of knowledge and logic and willingly probe deeply into the world of ideas. My other non hippie daughter (but hard core liberal) has the basic knowledge, UC Berkely and a law degree, but not the itnerest to probe deeply. Her mom who was the smartest of all of us and was the same way. They just wanted families-lol. Her mom who could have been president of Harvard, but had no interest and used to ask me all the time: "why do you read that stuff? It is just depressing-lol. Lots of types and shapes of liberals out there, but just being a liberal is good enough for me.
