Good choice for home defense. The 'Judge' is a five shot revolver, designed to fire both 410 shotgun shells and .45 long Colt ammunition. Some of the later models will also fire .45 ACP ammo. The good thing about the Judge is, when it is loaded with 410 buckshot, there is much less of a chance of the projectiles penetrating walls and hurting anyone in the next room or next house, as is always a possibility with a regular pistol such as a 9 mm or a 357 magnum. I purchased a Judge soon after they were put on sale here. I have fired it using several different types of ammunition. I like the 410 buckshot in size "00", or even 410 shells loaded with # 4 shot. When loaded with #4 shot, especially, the shot tends to spread out a bit after firing, and gives a little more room for slight errors in aiming. At 6 - 8 feet, the normal distance for most defensive firearm uses, the Judge is more than capable of protecting the homeowner. I will never part with my Judge (unless it was 'trade up' for a newer one). I think you will like it. Just go out and practice a bit with it, and you'll soon become confident that you made the right decision. One of the ammo companies, I think it might be Winchester, but could be Federal, is making 410 loads for the Judge which are filled with several 'disc like' projectiles, as well as one or two 'ball' type projectiles, with the idea being the discs will spread a little more when fired. You'll be able to find a lot of information on the Judge in various firearm related sights on the web. It's a pretty wise choice for home defense, or carrying while in the woods in case you need a good 'snake killer'.
