<<The public school system is tied to the State governments. How is your State gov doing financially Koan ?

My state government was formed by liberals. Both the constitution and social structure and we are thriving and our school system is kick ass good.

We have a 50 billion surplus in our Permanent fund which pays for most of our social services, including schools and we pay no taxes, except local taxes.

It was liberals who fought the conservatives tooth and nail to get that humongous government program, the Permanent fund, which puts 25% (now 50%) of all state resource revenue in a fund for our children no one can ever touch. We live off the revenue from the fund.

Conservatives hated the idea and fought it tooth and nail. Other big resource states spent all their money because they hate big government. We liberals used big governent to save part of our money for the kids!!! It takes a 3/4 vote of bothhouses to touch the principle. that will never happen. We also give everyone a permanent fund check of about $1,500 each year which keeps our economy strong.

Both of my kids and most of my friends kids went to local public schools up here and then easily went on to attend the best universites in the nation and all cruised through.

Their public education allowed them to compete with the smartest kids in the world at UC Berkeley and U of Oregon.
