It opens the doors to people (special interest or not, organized in a corporate form or not) to speak (in a broad sense of the word, including books, movies, etc. not just the direct individual verbal speech) on political issues. It supports the core purpose of the 1st amendments protection of speech.

The answer to speech you don't like is more speech, not getting the government to shut the other guy up.
