Horribly sad news. He was a rare and articulate voice of calm rationality, selflessness and compassion for others that one seldom encounters in the investment community. He is already greatly missed.

Very sad, Chris, and you summed up very well who Gary was and what he was about. I always looked forward to his phone calls that always wound up in laughter. He will be missed very much.

Chris,
I just read this, and I am upset. Both of us picked up on Gary's posts over on the Prodigy Money Talk board about the same time....I think it was about '95.....and we have all been together ever since. I only talked with him on the phone a few times, but it was like we were life long friends due to the seventeen years of continuing correspondence. He will be missed.

Chris; Your peronal loss rings true in your words of tribute to Gary. Gary always came across as a honest ,straightforward ,squareshooter; so your comparison to John Wayne seems very apt. Selfishly, I was very sad to hear of his passing from his painful earth, and I never had the opportunity to meet him personally, just through this site and emails. His soul will rest above, and his family will have many good reminisces of their lost captain and father, I am certain.

I am very saddened to hear of Gary's loss.

His selfless contribution to this thread, and reminding us to donate money to organizations,

should give comfort to Gary's family for the wonderful person Gary was.

I know I will miss him.

I'm so very sad to hear this news. I first communicated with Gary at 9600 baud if that tells you anything, and few people have impacted my life the way he has. RIP Gary, and thanks for everything.

Many condolences to his loved ones.

This is very sad news. Gary was a unique individual who always kept life in perspective. I did not know him personally, and I'm only a part-time investor, but he was always so willing to help out and teach me. He was also deeply rooted in his faith. It wasn't just about investing, it was about doing it honestly, encouraging the good where he saw it (including in companies), and always remembering the poor, the less fortunate. He gave me much guidance not only in investing but especially for living. He will be missed. I want to thank all of you here too for keeping this outstanding thread active and interesting. You carry on his spirit! And I pray that in these difficult days his family may know some of that peace of heart in which Gary is now embraced. Dirk

I am saddened by the passing of Gary. I've known him since we ran stock boards for Prodigy and that's been quite awhile ago. He will be missed by many more than his immediate family will ever know. My prayers go out to his family.

This is terribly sad news, right on the heels of the loss of Gary and Claudia's daughter Erin. Claudia and Chris have lost a husband and a father, we have lost a friend and mentor, and the world has lost a wonderful person full of grace and generosity. Gary's wisdom was as much about life as it was about stocks. I will always regret that we never had our Kitchen reunion so I could shake the hand of this great man just once.

Max

I just received an email about Gary's demise. Since I don't post here anymore I was quite shocked. I didn't know he was sick. I want to extend my condolences to his family and all his friends here on this board. He was a pioneer when it came to investing in penny stocks. We all know how many lousy penny plays are out there - he had a talent of finding the few good ones. RIP Gary.

Dear Lord, please take care of our dear friend Gary and his daughter.

Gary has had one of the most profound impacts on my life and my livelihood of anyone I've ever known, despite the fact we only knew each other through this electronic medium and never had the opportunity to meet face-to-face.

He was one of a kind in this investment universe ruled by greed, he openly shared his knowledge and skills with us all, and made it a paramount priority to teach us the value of sharing our success with others. We should all continue to honor Gary's mission for this board, so share our success with others.

Gary, you were one of a kind and it was a privilege to know you and learn from you, thank you for sharing your time with me.

I hope and pray you have a special place reserved for you in heaven.

I'm crushed. Gary was one of a kind. I feel privileged to have known him, invested alongside him, and occasionally sparred with him about one investment or another.

"his spirit will ring loud and clear like an opening bell forever"
Nicely put.

Deepest sympathy to Gary's family. RIP Gary.

So sad. Gary was always concerned about the less fortunate among us and was always willing to teach anyone who was interested in the ways of microcap investing. A truly selfless person, he will be missed by many.
My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

God Bless Gary and his family. I've been working with Gary for the past 8 years and he has been teaching me the ropes in this field. He has been one of the greatest mentors that I could ever ask for in the whole world. He is the one who kicked my ass and pushed me to my limit and learning and getting good and finding undiscovered micros that could be a great investment opportunity.

It has been a very rough week for me..and I'm sure for many here. It is very sad to see such a dedicated person who helped out so many companies and investors in this field. He will truly be missed and I still haven't met anyone that could even come close to him. I grew up about 5 minutes from Gary and have spent some good time with him.

He was a fighter and his energy in this business is unforgettable. Fortunately, I was able to see him one last time at his daughters funeral last month. Very sad way to see Gary...but we had an opportunity to talk stocks and always good to see him smile. He would work 24/7 365 24,000+ hours to try and beat the market and his brain was literally a hard drive.

What is great is 90% of his legendary career is on this thread. Over 40,000 posts in 15 years is a true statement of his work ethic and helpful to others.
